Another Continent, Another Topper for Practical Joke at Tattersalls
It was a different continent but the same result for Practical Joke on Tuesday when his filly out of Purr And Prowl brought 360,000gns ($519,535) to top the first session of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale.
Going through the ring as Lot 71, the filly was consigned by Tally-Ho Stud and sold to A C Elliott on behalf of White Birch Farm. The filly was bought as a weanling for $185,000 by Brookstone Farm from the consignment of co-breeder Parrish Hill Farm at the 2019 Keeneland November Sale.
"She is a beautiful filly and she going back to the US and to Chad [Brown], who trained Practical Joke," said Elliott. "She has been very highly thought of from Day 1, Roger has raved about her all along. I am delighted to get her, I think she is a perfect filly to go back to the States. The two-year-old guys in Florida were raving about Practical Joke all winter – it is one thing then to go and do it, and they seem to be doing it. "
A half-sister to Tale of the Cat’s Group II-placed Rebel Tale among three winners out of her dam, the filly sees eight stakes winners of races in the United States, England, and Ireland under her second dam. Her third dam was also a successful racehorse and broodmare as a Grade I winner whose daughters and granddaughters have produced Grade I winners Archarcharch and Bullards Alley among others.
This filly also has a yearling Air Force Blue half-brother bred by Lynch Bages to come.
The sire of session and sales toppers throughout every stage of his first crop’s visits to the sales ring, Practical Joke’s first 2-year-olds are averaging $327,656 at this year’s breeze up sales. They are led by an $800,000 filly with his other juveniles selling for $750,000, $500,000, ect.
