Another Strong Keeneland Session for Practical Joke
The momentum kept rolling for Practical Joke when his filly out of Good Grammar brought $425,000 to lead his Sunday offerings.
Purchased by Farm Ridge from Warrendale Sales, the filly bred by Jeff and Robin Kerber is the second foal out of her Exchange Rate dam.
A two-time winner herself, Good Grammar is a half-sister to stakes winners Vuitton, Take Cover, and Gleaming Elegance from Juliet’s Way’s seven others to win. The mare is also a full sister to stakes winner Juliet’s Spirit and stakes-placed Madonna Mia.
Juliet’s Way is a half-sister to 20-time winner Juliannus, who won 20 races overall. Juliannus is one of three stakes performers out of Princess Juliet. Ten stakes performers are named under the mare and Juliet’s Way’s half-sisters, not including those Juliet’s Way has produced.
Practical Joke also saw Martin Schwartz purchase a $250,000 filly from Indian Creek as agent. Co-bred by her consigner with Wildwood Farm, the filly had been a $120,000 Keeneland January purchase by Yorktown Stable earlier this year.
The filly is out of Atlantic Dream, whose winner from two to race is the Grade I-placed Gozilla. Atlantic Storm herself is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Icy Atlantic and a half-sister to Grade III winner Wild Promises in addition to stakes-placed Frosty Friday. Wild Promises added some extra blacktype to the page this year when her son West Will Power was second in the Grade III Philip H. Iselin.
Quickly rising through the ranks as a sire on the track, Practical Joke has buyers eager to take home yearlings from his second crop. Led by a $750,000 colt, the triple Grade I winner has seen his 29 yearlings sold average $245,483 with a median of $210,000 through the first three books.
