Baby Blythe Dominates at Saratoga for American Pharoah

Stretching out to 1 3/16 miles on the turf at Saratoga on Saturday, Baby Blythe (3f American Pharoah x Susie’s Baby, by Giant’s Causeway) put in an eye-catching performance with a seven length romp.

With Joel Rosario aboard, Baby Blythe was eager to run from the gate as Rosario kept her near the back of the pack with only a few horses beat early on. The filly raced over 10 lengths off the leaders as two dueled well in front of the field.

That pair seemed to start to tire half-way down the backstretch and the field was quickly upon them with Rosario letting his filly go. It took less than a furlong for Baby Blythe to have the lead and the race was over before they even left the far turn.

Rosario continued to glance behind him down the stretch as Baby Blythe romped home to cross the line seven in front.

Trained by Shug McGaughey, Baby Blythe was a $325,000 yearling purchase by racing owner Courtlandt Farms at the Keeneland September Sale from Gainesway.

Bred by Diamond Creek Farm, Baby Blythe is a half-sister to Uncle Mo's stakes-placed Family Way and out of a winning half-sister to American Pharoah’s dual Group I winning studmate Caravaggio and Grade II winner My Jen. My Jen has also produced her own stakes performer in Group III-placed Satono Gold.

Baby Blythe has a yearling Justify half-sister and a weanling Uncle Mo half-sister to come.
