Book Topper Leads Way for Practical Joke During Second Week of Keeneland
The highest priced yearling of Book 5 led the way for Practical Joke during the later sessions of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale after selling for $250,000 to CJ Thoroughbreds.
Offered by Bluewater Sales, the Burton Johnson-bred is out of the two-time winner Jetbird. That mare’s two to race include a winning three-quarter brother to X J Jet. In addition to X J Yet, Jetbird is also a half-sister to the stakes placed Woman Soldier and 13-time winner High Mystery.
Practical Joke was an in-demand sire from start to finish at this sale, with a $575,000 filly 13 hips into the sale kicking him off. She tied with another $575,000 yearling sold later to be his highest priced offering.
In all, Practical Joke saw his 49 head sold bring a combined $7.294 million for an average of $148,857.
