Bullet Breezers Lead Practical Joke OBS Offerings
Practical Joke continued to prove buyers’ faith in him right during the OBS March Sales of Two-Year-Olds In Training breeze show when he had three 2-year-olds breeze the bullet :9.4.
While his first of the three is now an out, during the second session Practical Joke had two :9.4s within two hips of each other, starting with Hip 309. Offered by the Mckathan Bros. consignment, he is the first foal out of stakes-placed Untraveled. Bred by Erv Woolsey and Ralph Kinder, the colt also sees his dam as a half-sister to stakes winner Artesian and the dam of stakes-placed Chulula.
Untraveled’s dam is a half-sister to Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Green Perfume, Grade II winner Salty Perfume – who also produced two stakes horses – and the dam of stakes winner Gunfighter.
Two hips after ’19 Untraveled it was was ’19 Valiant Emilia clocking a :9.4. The filly out of Peruvian champion Valiant Emilia is the second major performer for the family this week after family member Helium won the Grade II Tampa Bay Derby.
The family is full of blacktype from top to bottom with Grade I winner Emilia’s Moon, Grade III winner Thundering Emilia, and Grade II-placed I Am Spying only a few names on the page. Consigned by Top Line Sales as Hip 311, the filly sold for $120,000 at last September’s Keenland Yearling Sale and was bred in Kentucky by Teneri Farm.
Practical Joke’s first hip through the ring this week registered a :10.0 time for her breeze during the first session.
Selling at Hip 49, the Robert Brewer-consigned filly is a half-sister to stakes winner Snow Man. Also a half-sister to two other winners, the April-born filly is out of a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Falling Sky with stakes winners under each of her four dams. Out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare, she is bred extremely close to Into Mischief’s Grade II winner Miss Mischief and multiple stakes winner Doc Boy.
Out of a half-sister to Grade III-placed Kinsella, Hip 109 was part of the :10.1 club. A half-sister to two winners, the Old South Farm-offered filly is also from the family of Grade I winner Raging Fever and Grade III winner Secret Liaison.
Out of a half-sister to Champion 2-Year-Old Action This Day was :10.1 breezer Hip 440. Part of the Potrero Stables draft, the filly also sees her dam as a half-sister to the dams of Champion Sprinter Drefong and stakes-placed Ensuring. This family has Grade I form throughout with Irish Oaks winner Star Catcher and Grade I winner Cannock Chase among the Grade I winners under her third dam.
The fastest of Practical Joke’s quarter mile breezers was Hip 113 with a :21.1 breeze. A son of multiple stakes winner Mystic City, each of his first four dams is either a stakes performer or stakes producer. This is another Practical Joke colt bred for success with Carson City granddaughters producing two stakes performers and nine winners from 11 runners by Into Mischief, led by Grade III winner and Grade II-placed Gas Station Sushi.
Practical Joke’s first offering through the ring comes as Hip 49 during Tuesday’s session. Both sessions of the OBS March Sale start at 11:00am ET.
