Carnaby Street Impressive Debut Winner for Pharoah
Carnaby Street (2f American Pharoah x Sloane Square, by Giant’s Causeway) was an impressive winner on debut for Michael Tabor and Wesley Ward with a 4 ½ length Maiden Special Weight victory at Kentucky Downs.
Sprinting over 6 ½ furlongs on the turf, Carnaby Street tracked the leader in third soon after they broke going up the hill on the unique track. Racing in third for much of the run, Carnaby Street slipped between the two leaders with just over a quarter mile to go and took off from there. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione didn’t have to ask for much in the end with American Pharoah’s Desert Tempest closing late to grab third.
Bred by Chelston, Carnaby Street is out of Grade III-placed Sloane Square. That mare is a full sister to stakes winner Bow Bells and half-sister to multiple stakes-placed Chief Little Hawk with the trio out of Grade I winner Marylebone.
Sloane Square had a Munnings colt last year and a filly by the same stallion this year.
