Challedon Winner Swill Newest Stakes Winner for Munnings
Swill (5g Munnings x Walking Miracle, by Into Mischief) became the newest stakes winner for his sire on Sunday with a victory in the Challedon Stakes at Pimlico for Kueber Racing and Ten Strike Racing.
Racing over six furlongs on the dirt, Swill was last early on as he chased the leader throughout much of the race. There were six lengths between him and the lead in the stretch as he raced down the center of the track but he wasn’t going to let that stop him. He closed strongly to take over inside the final furlong and pulled away to win by 1 ½ lengths in the end.
It was the fourth win and sixth top two finish overall in 10 starts for the Brittany Russell-trained gelding, who was bred by Nathan McCauley. McCauley is also the breeder of Munnings’ Eda, who won a Grade III exactly two weeks ago.
Kueber Racing and Ten Strike went to $265,000 to secure this colt as a yearling from Eaton Sales at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale.
Swill is a half-brother to the Grade II winner Stitched and out of a half-sister to the Grade III winning Sound Money with Grade I winners Mast Track and Jemayel produced by his third dam.
Walking Miracle had a Munnings filly in 2021 named Zuber, who was a $285,000 yearling purchase last year and is working regularly at Del Mar.
Swill is the 11th stakes winner of the year for Munnings, putting him fifth among all stallions. His 27 stakes performers this year ties him for second with Uncle Mo and Gun Runner.
