Chesterette Newest Winner for Practical Joke
Chesterette (3f Practical Joke x Jenny’s So Great, by Greatness) was a dominant Maiden Special Weight winner at Sam Houston on Wednesday when becoming her sire’s 38th worldwide winner.
Making her third start, Chesterette raced less than two lengths off the pacesetter nearly from the start of the 6 ½ furlong dirt race as the favorite. Racing on the rail early on, she switched outside around the turn to go three wide into the stretch.
There was still a foe in front of her in the final furlong but Chesterette was not to be denied and flew past to win by two lengths with the rest of the field over 9 ½ lengths back.
Trained by Bart Hone for David and Holly Wilson, Chesterette was a $165,000 yearling purchase by Julie Davies from her breeder Woods Edge Farm as a yearling. Davies was rewarded for the purchase when the Wilsons bought the filly from her 2-year-old draft for $300,000 last April.
Chesterette is one of two winners out of the Grade III winning Jenny’s So Great, who won or placed in 10 stakes in her career. Jenny’s So Great is also the half-sister to the dam of the stakes winning Unbridled Victory and Super Jen with the extended family including Grade I winner Supah Gem.
Practical Joke has been a worldwide sensation with winners in four different countries, led by six stakes winners. That group is led by the Grade III winner duo of Girl With a Dream and Wit. Wit is also a two-time Grade I-placed runner.
