Dugat Wins Second Straight In Japan
Dugat (2c Practical Joke x Untraveled, by Canadian Frontier) visited the winner’s circle for the second straight race on Saturday with a victory in a Tokyo Allowance.
The seven furlong turf race saw Dugat hustled to the lead by Yutaka Take where he was given a clear run nearly five lengths ahead of the field. It was a catch-me-if-you-can race that saw Dugat race comfortably in front as the other runners tried to run him down.
Dugat was given a few taps in the final two furlongs as the rest of the field started closing in but was never seriously asked for his full talent as he galloped across the line a neck in front.
A $190,000 OBS March buy from McKathan Brothers by his trainer Hideyuki Mori, Dugat has top the finishes in three of his five starts for owner Susumu Fujita.
The Erv Woolsey and Ralph Kinder-bred is the first foal out of stakes-placed Untraveled. The family also includes Grade II winners Green Perfume and Salty Perfume among others.
A top North American freshman sire, Practical Joke has runners in seven different countries with both his Japanese winners scoring victories. In addition to his five stakes performers, Practical Joke also has three runners who have finished fourth in stakes as well – including Dugat.
