Echo Town Filly Wins Again at Churchill
Echo Sound (2f Echo Town x Eagle Sound, by Fusaichi Pegasus) stayed undefeated in two starts on Thursday night with an Allowance Optional Claiming victory at Churchill Downs.
The Rusty Arnold trainee was one of the first out of the gate in the six-furlong dirt race and quickly started pressuring the leader with one other horse joining her in the task. Echo Sound had her head in front halfway through the turn but stuck with the long-time leader until that one gave way at the top of the stretch.
From there, Echo Sound tried to pull away, but another runner came with her to keep her winning margin at 1 ½ lengths when she hit the line. The rest of the field was over five lengths back.
Going off as the race favorite, Echo Sound had been putting in solid works before this start for owner Gabriel Duignan at Keeneland.
She was bred by Springhouse Farm, Vision TBs, and Bruce and Patricia Pieratt in Kentucky out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Eagle Sound.
That mare also produced Grade II winner Pick of the Litter and Grade II placed Deer District among her nine winners from 11 to run. Eagle Sound is one of four winners out of her own dam with her siblings including Grade II winner Wild Syn and the granddam of Grade I winner Competitive Edge.
Grade I winner Echo Town has sired six winners this year with the three-time stakes placed Three Echoes among his winners.
