Itzayana Newest Echo Town Winner
Itzayana (3f Echo Town x Tiz The Argument, by Closing Argument) was winner number 12 for Echo Town when she won a Maiden Special Weight on Saturday.
It didn’t take long for the filly to vie for the lead in the 4 ½ furlong race, pouring on the pressure from the gate on the early leader. The pair battled throughout the first quarter before another runner joined in down the stretch, but Itzayana proved to be the best of the trio.
She pulled away to a determined half length victory after finishing third on debut last out for trainer Manolo Mangual and owner Emanuel Colon Alamo.
Bred by Charles Giles and Patrick Payne, Itzayana is one of three winners from three to race out of the multiple stakes winning Tiz The Argument. Each of her first five dams have either won a stakes or produced a stakes performer with the family including champion Left Bank and Grade I winner Lucifer’s Stone.
Echo Town’s 12 winners include two stakes winners and three stakes performers overall, putting him in the top eight among freshman sires in both categories.
