Eda Continues Streak in G2 Great Lady M
It was a sixth straight victory for Munnings’ Grade I-winning daughter Eda (4f Munnings x Show Me, by Lemon Drop Kid) on Independence Day when the filly added the Grade II Great Lady M to her resume.
Trained by Bob Baffert for Baoma Corp, Eda went straight to the lead in the 6 ½ furlong race as her is usual move. She was pressured around the track by Elm Drive and grudgingly relinquished the lead in the turn. Eda refused to call it a day though and continued to fight down the stretch. She regained the advantage with a sixteenth to go and was determined to keep it.
In the end, she won by a neck in a three-way battle for the win to take her to seven wins in nine starts for nearly $600,000 in earnings.
The Nathan McCauley-bred was a $240,000 yearling purchase before being bought by Donato Lanni from Eddie Woods for $550,000 as a 2-year-old.
She is the first foal out of the winning mare Show Me, who is a half-sister to Grade III winner Aegean and stakes winner Light Bringer. They are out of Apt To Star, a half-sister to two stakes winners and one of three stakes producers for her own dam.
Show Me had a full brother to Eda on March 27 of this year.
Eda was the fourth stakes winner in four days for Munnings over the holiday weekend with the stallion hitting a milestone 70 career stakes winners on Saturday when My Beautiful Belle won the Regret Stakes.
Munnings’ 10 stakes winners in 2023 is third best of all North American stallions and ties him with studmate Uncle Mo.
