El Oriente Another Graded Stakes Winner For Practical Joke
It was a good day for Practical Joke in Chile when the stallion sired three of the top four home in the Group III Clasico Victor Matetic Fernandez, led by El Oriente (2c Practical Joke x Oshawa, by Scat Daddy).
The 7 ½ furlong dirt race saw El Oriente race in the back early on before finding himself in midpack as they exited the backstretch. It wasn’t going to be easy going from his position and El Oriente had to work hard down the stretch to reach the leaders with multiple lengths still left to close in the final furlong.
El Oriente finally clicked into full gear in the final sixteenth to win by a nose with two other Practical Joke runners a length back in third and fourth. In the other Group III on the Hipodromo Chile card, Practical Joke also had the second and fourth place finishers.
Bred by Haras Paso Nevado, El Oriente is trained by Juan Pablo Baeza and is one of three winners out of Scat Daddy’s Group III winner and Group I-placed Oshawa. Oshawa is also a full sister to Group II-placed Ostentador and half-sister to the group placed duo of Oradora and Orsa.
Practical Joke is the sire of five worldwide graded stakes winners and nine stakes winners overall with 14 stakes performers to his name from his first crop.
