Express Pharoah Wins Gulfstream Park Maiden
After a pair of bridesmaid finishes to start 2020, Express Pharoah (3c American Pharoah x Sea Queen, by Lemon Drop Kid) crossed the line first to break his maiden at Gulfstream Park on Sunday.
Racing over a mile on firm turf, Express Pharoah went to the lead soon after the break and galloped along strongly with a rival at his hip throughout the run. Swinging into the stretch all alone, Express Pharoah was a clear leader until the final sixteenth of a mile when he had to dig in to win by a neck.
Trained by Alexis Delgado for Partner Stable, Express Pharoah was bred by The Neuman Group. The bay colt is the first foal out of Listed winner and Grade I Belmont Oaks runner-up Sea Queen. Sea Queen is a half-sister to Grade I-winning Nereid, who is also the dam of Listed winning Figarella’s Queen.
The colt also hails from the family of Kentucky Oaks winner Sun And Snow. He is one of two winners from two runners bred on the American Pharoah x Lemon Drop Kid cross with the cross also producing Listed placed Homeland for American Pharoah.
Last year’s Champion Freshman Sire, American Pharoah is the sire of 34 winners and 15 stakes horses, led by six stakes winners including the Grade I-winning duo of Four Wheel Drive and Sweet Melania.
