Forever Souper Wins Second Straight in Turf Classic
American Pharoah’s Forever Souper (5g American Pharoah x Mighty Souper, by War Front) was one of three Coolmore-sired stakes winners on Tampa Bay’s card Sunday with a victory in the Turf Classic.
A second Live Oak Plantation homebred sired by a Coolmore stallion to visit the winner’s circle that day, Forever Souper was patiently ridden by Paco Lopez in the 1 1/8-mile turf race. He stuck close to the leader as the race favorite, never straying more than 1 ½ lengths away.
Turning into the stretch four wide, Lopez asked his mount to engage, and Forever Souper willingly went to battle. In the final furlong, he captured the lead to win by 1 ¼ lengths in the end.
Trained by Michael Trombetta, it was the second straight stakes victory for the gelding, who has won both his 2024 starts and is the winner of six of 13 starts with three other top three finishes.
Forever Souper is one of two winners out of the stakes-placed Mighty Souper. That mare is one of five winners out of a half-sister to stakes winner Harmony Hall and the dam of stakes-placed Sandy’s Garden. The extended family includes Grade I winners Lakeway and Mushka and Canadiana champion Grand Adventure among others.
This is the second stakes winner of the weekend for American Pharoah, who saw Riff Rocket win his second career Group I in Australia on Saturday.
