Joker Boy Third Winner of Week for Practical Joke
Another day meant another winner for Practical Joke on Saturday when Joker Boy (2c Practical Joke x Bandora, by Dixieland Band) became his third winner of the week with a debut victory at Del Mar.
The 5 ½ dirt dash saw Joker Boy line up for the lead early on before dropping to midpack as the eventual leader opened up multiple lengths on the field.
Joker Boy left himself plenty to do as they raced down the stretch but with Edwin Maldonado urging him on, the colt started to make headway in the final furlong. The colt clicked into a higher gear in the final furlong to pass the top half of the field and run down the stretch leader.
It took nearly until the line but Joker Boy saw himself in front by half a length for trainer Brian Koriner.
Bred by Premier Thoroughbreds, the California-bred is owned by Rusty Brown, Alan Klein, and Phillip Lebherz.
Joker Boy is a half-brother to stakes winner Continental Divide among the five other winners out of his stakes-placed dam Bandora. Bandora’s dam is a half-sister to six stakes performers. Those half-sisters have produced horses such as Grade I winners Love Theway Youare and Gretzky the Great and Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Tower Of Texas.
Joker Boy’s dam Bandora returned to Practical Joke this year.
Living up to all expectations, Practical Joke is now the sire of eight winners with that group including impressive Grade III winner Wit.
