Kathynmarissa 50th Stakes Winner for American Pharoah

Stakes placed in her other two stakes attempts, American Pharoah’s daughter Kathynmarissa (3f American Pharoah x La Dalila, by Milt’s Overture) recorded her first stakes victory on Wednesday in the $1.6 million Dueling Grounds Oaks.

Second last out in the Grade II Saratoga Oaks, the Richard Dutrow trainee was happy to sit in midpack in the 1 5/16th mile race where she went off as favorite. Coming into the far turn, the field tightened up after an early runaway leader with Kathynmarissa using her outside position to her advantage.

Frankie Dettori started encouraging Kathynmarissa soon after the stretch run begun, and it didn’t take her long to go to the front. Dettori put his stick away soon after they hit the front with Kathynmarissa pricking her ears as she crossed the line 2 ½ lengths in front of everyone.

Racing for Michael Caruso and Michael Dubb, Kathynmarissa has now hit the board in six of her eight starts with wins at Santa Anita, Churchill Downs, and Kentucky Downs. She was a $200,000 yearling purchase by H R Bloodstock from Taylor Made at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Kathynmarissa is one of two stakes winners out of Grade I winner La Dalila alongside Chilean champion and Grade I winner La Poetisa. Each of Kathynmarissa’s first five dams have either won a stakes or produced a stakes performer with many having stakes producing daughters outside of those connected to Kathynmarissa.

American Pharoah's 50th worldwide stakes winner, Kathynmarissa was also the second stakes winner of the week for American Pharoah alongside Deep Satin with one of his yearlings also selling for $1.35 million at Keeneland September.
