Lady Lowery Second Stakes Winner of Day for Munnings
It was a second stakes winner in two races on the Laurel card for Munnings when Lady Lowery (3f Munnings x Last Dance, by Revolutionary) won the Beyond The Wire Stakes one race after Nimitz Class’s stakes win.
Making her third start in the one-mile dirt affair, Lady Lowery broke awkwardly but quickly bounced back to take the lead only a few strides later. She was rated early on by Jack Gilligan as she set the pace by about a length with everyone besides her closest rival over three lengths behind her.
Moved from the rail spot she had occupied early on, Lady Lowery raced into the straight three ride well ahead of the field. While another horse tried to cut down her lead in the final sixteenth, Lady Lowery was having none of it and won by three lengths with the third placed finisher 5 ½ lengths back at the line.
Trained by William Walden for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Gary Barber, and Wachtel Stables, Lady Lowery has now won two of her three career starts with her only loss being a second place finish.
Bred by WinStar Farm, Lady Lowery is out of a half-sister to Grade III winner Speightster and two other stakes winners. In all, her dam Last Dance is a sibling to six stakes performers or producers. Last Dance is a granddaughter of champion and bluehen Classy ‘N Smart, whose runners included Canadian Horse of the year Dance Smartly, Grade I winner and champion sire Smart Strike, and the granddam of champion Say The Word.
