Mendelssohn’s Storm Daddy Romps at Turfway

It was an impressive debut victory for Mendelssohn’s Storm Daddy (2g Mendelssohn x Storm Star, by Candy Ride) on Friday night at Turfway Park for Cristina Convit.

Trained by Wesley Ward, Storm Daddy gunned straight for the lead in the one-mile affair and always held over a length on the other runners. That length was just a preview of things to come as the juvenile started steadily pulling away in the turn to have 4 ½ lengths in hand with a furlong left to go.

No one could come near him in that final eighth mile with Storm Daddy winning by 8 ½ lengths in the end to become his sire’s 24th winner.

Bred by El Capi Racing, Storm Daddy is a grandson of the multiple stakes winning Stormy West and is one of three winners from three to race out of that mare’s winning Candy Ride daughter Storm Star. The gelding’s fourth dam is the successful broodmare Stick To Beauty – the granddam of champion Dayjur and Grade I winner and bluehen Maplejnsky.

Mendelssohn’s 24 winners is fourth best among all freshmen with six stakes performers led by Grade II winner Delight.
