Money Supply Newest Graded Stakes Winner for Practical Joke
Money Supply (5h Practical Joke x Evita’s Sister, by Candy Ride) registered a fifth straight victory in his graded stakes debut on Saturday with a win in the Grade III Mineshaft Stakes at Fair Grounds.
Racing 1 1/16 miles on the dirt, Money Supply broke strongly before taking a spot in midpack between two horses. Racing a few paths off the rail, he sat in fifth about five lengths behind a dueling trio down the backstretch.
Dropping back even farther going into the turn, Money Supply had plenty of work to do if he wanted to win but he had more than enough left to do just that.
Racing up the middle of the track in the stretch, he chased down the leader before reaching that foe with a sixteenth left to go. Starting to build his advantage in the closing strides, Money Supply won by a head at the line.
Trained by Joe Sharp for Jordan Wycoff, it was the seventh victory and 11th top three finish in 16 starts for Money Supply, taking his earnings to $600,772.
A $400,000 Keeneland September yearling, the 5-year-old was bred by Jeff, Teresa, and Marilyn Little and William Lynn in Kentucky.
Money Supply is a three-quarter brother to stakes winner Sister Nation and one of four winners out of two-time winner Evita’s Sister. That mare is a full sister to Grade I winner Evita Argentina, who herself has produced five winners. The family also includes Grade I winner Trippi with stakes winners under three of Money Supply’s first four dams.
Evita’s Sister has a Tiz The Law 2-year-old colt to come.
Money Supply is the fourth stakes winner of the year for Practical Joke, the best of any fourth crop sire this year by three winners with seven stakes performers and 28 winners also putting him on top in those categories as well.
