Nimitz Class (Munnings) Wins Parx Dirt Mile

Munnings Colt Adds Another Win to Impressive 2023 Record

Tom Coulter homebred Nimitz Class (4c Munnings x Five Diamonds, by Flatter) added a sixth stakes victory to his record on Saturday with a win in the Listed Parx Dirt Mile Stakes.

Racing over one mile on the sloppy track, the Munnings colt raced a few paths wide over three lengths behind the leader for the first half of the race. As they reached the final turn, he made his move and started his march toward the front. The battle was on from there with Nimitz Class steadily making up ground until he entered a duel with Grade I winner Gunite for the win outside the final furlong.

That foe gave him some grief before giving in and Nimitz Class pulled away to a 1 ¾ length victory with the third-place finisher over six lengths behind the winner.

Trained by Bruce Kravets, Nimitz Class has won 11 of his 20 starts for over $700,000 in earnings. Five of those come from his eight 2023 starts with the colt also finishing second in the three races he didn’t win this year.

Nimitz Class is a full brother to Munnings’ multiple stakes winner Kaylasaurus with the duo out of the stakes winning Five Diamonds. Their pedigree also includes champions Requebra and In Essence and multiple Group II inners Tap and Tap Is Back.

Munnings is the sire of 11 stakes winners with year with his 28 stakes performers third best of all North American stallions.
