Munnings Filly Wins by Five
Talented filly Ben’s Duchess (3f Munnings x Armathwaite, by Sky Classic) raced away to win as she pleased at Santa Anita on Sunday.
Stakes-placed twice after breaking her maiden at the same venue last December, the John Sadler trained filly was sent out favourite for this six and half furlong contest and proved far too good in winning by five and a quarter lengths.
Raced by Doubledown Stables, Ben’s Duchess has won twice and placed three times earning over $90,000 in prizemoney.
She has been through the sale ring several times fetching $45,000 as a weanling, $57,000 as a yearling and finally $170,000 at the OBS March 2YO Sale.
Ben’s Duchess is from Armathwaite, a half-sister to stakes-winner Shareefa, the dam of Grade I winner Vergennes.
