Munnings Half-Sister to Lookin At Lucky Bolts Home on Debut
It was an eye catching debut for a Munnings half-sister to Lookin At Lucky on Thursday when Shahama (2f Munnings x Private Feeling, by Belong To Me) rolled to a nine length victory in Dubai.
Trained by Fawzi Nass for KHK Racing, the seven furlong dirt race saw the Munnings daughter race wide near the back of the tightly packed field. With a half mile left in the race, Shahama made her presence known by edging up to just behind the leader when racing four wide.
In the stretch, Shahama took no prisoners, pulling away while eased down in the end. Coolmore-sired runners filled the top four spots with Cupid’s Minwah second, Practical Joke’s Nobody’s Joke third, and Pride of Dubai’s Shinyar fourth.
A $425,000 2-year-old purchase earlier this year by her trainer, Shahama is not only a half-sister to Lookin At Lucky but also multiple graded stakes winner Kensei and four other winners.
Shahama is a granddaughter of stakes-placed Regal Feeling, who also produced Grade III winner Grand Charmer. Grand Charmer is also the granddam of stakes winner Feeling Mischief and American Pharoah’s Grade III-placed Royal Act. Another of the runners out of Grand Charmer’s daughters is champion Wait A While.
Munnings has had a banner year with his 18 stakes winners second only to Mendelssohn’s half-brother Into Mischief and his 38 stakes performers second only to that stallion and Curlin.
