Munnings’ Jack Christopher Returns Victorious in G2 Pat Day
Undefeated Grade I winner Jack Christopher (3c Munnings x Rushin No Blushin, by Half Ours) picked up right where he left off on Saturday with an authoritative victory in the Grade II Pat Day Mile S. at Churchill Downs.
The future Coolmore stallion shadowed Grade II winner Pappacap around the oval in the one-mile dirt race, patiently waiting to make his move. That came around the turn when he started his challenge and though Pappacap tried to stick with him, that one finally gave in with just over a furlong left to go and it was easy sailing from then on.
Jack Christopher romped to a 3 ¾ length victory to take his combined margin of victory for his three starts to 15 ¼ lengths. Trained by Chad Brown, the colt runs for Jim Bakke, Gerry Isbister, Coolmore Stud, and White Birch Farm.
“At the end of the day, he’s a super talented race horse and if we can keep him on the track, we’ll see a lot of great things from him,” said Brown. “This horse reminds me a lot of Ghostzapper, I was fortunate to work with that horse, he moves about the same as him, and that one had a few rough patches as well.”
A $135,000 purchase by BSW/Crow at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton October Sale, he was bred by Castleton Lyons and Kilboy Estate out of Rushin No Blushin. That mare is the dam of two winners from three to race and is a half-sister to dual Grade I winner Street Boss and multiple graded stakes placed Habiboo. Habiboo is also the dam of Grade III winners Bellera and Life Imitates Art with one of her daughters producing Grade III winning Beyond Blame.
Rushin No Blushin has a 2-year-old Mo Town filly to come.
Jack Christopher is one of nine stakes winners and 15 stakes performers for Munnings in 2022 and takes him to 100 wins on the year from his 66 winners – the most wins of any North American stallion so far this year.
