Oh So True Latest First Crop Winner for American Pharoah

Oh So True (3f American Pharoah x Shawara, by Barathea) became the latest first crop winner for her Triple Crown winning sire on Wednesday with a 1¼ length victory at Gowran Park.

Racing on the turf over 9½ furlongs, the Donnacha O’Brien trainee broke on the rail and raced in a prominent position among the main pack of the field as the leader opened over 10 lengths on them. Roused by Wayne Lordan as they entered the final 2½ furlongs, Oh So True slipped through a hole along the rail and soon had the lead.

Pricking her ears as she neared the line, the filly became the fifth winner out of her Listed winning dam Shawara.

A €750,000 Arqana Deauville Yearling purchase by M V Magnier and racing for the Coolmore partnership, Oh So True was bred by Barronstown Stud.

Oh So True is a half-sister to two-time Group I winner Shareta and stakes placed Shazand, Shaywan, and Londres from her dam’s five winners. Shawara herself is a half-sister to Irish champion and dual-Group I winner Shawanda, who in turn sired Group I St. Leger winner Encke and Group III winner Genius Beast.

Returning to American Pharoah the year after Oh So True was born, Shawara also has a yearling filly by the sire.

Last year’s Champion Freshman, American Pharoah continues to be among the leading sires of his generation this year with the most stakes winners, graded stakes winners, Grade I horses, stakes horses, and graded stakes horses of his class.
