Practical Joke Colt Eye-Catching in Maiden Victory
Practical Joke looks to have another promising runner on his hands after Klaravich Stable’s Proprietary Trade (3c Practical Joke x Mo’s Song, by Uncle Mo) made easy work of an Aqueduct Maiden Special Weight.
Making his second career start in the six-furlong dirt race, Proprietary Trade was bumped at the start but quickly recovered and sprinted to the lead under coaxing from Manny Franco. Franco gathered him back up after getting the position he wanted and under easy handling, he slowly started building his margin as the race progressed.
When set down by Franco in the stretch, Proprietary Trade responded well and had six lengths on the field going into the final furlong. Deemed by his jockey to have done enough, Proprietary Trade was eased down and coasted under the line 4 ¾ lengths in front.
A $190,000 weanling purchase by Sand Hill Bloodstock from Castle Park Farm, the Chad Brown trainee was bred by Russell Jones.
He is the first foal out of Uncle Mo’s winning daughter Mo’s Song, who is a half-sister to dual stakes winner She’s My Gem. Those under Proprietary Trade’s third dam include Grade I winner My Conquestadory and Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Runninsonofagun.
Mo’s Song has an unnamed 2-year-old colt by Practical Joke, who sold for $185,000 last year, as well.
Practical Joke leads all fourth crop sires by winners, stakes winners, stakes horses, and graded stakes winners in 2024 with his three graded stakes performers also second best in his generation.
His 37 2024 runners is also fifth best among all stallions with every stallion above him having at least three more crops on the track.
