Practical Joke Filly Catches Eye at Gulfstream
Atthecrossroads (2f Practical Joke x Midnight Magic, by Midnight Lute) looks a promising prospect for Practical Joke after a 17 ¼ length Gulfstream Park Maiden Special Weight victory.
Stalking the pacesetter early in the seven-furlong dirt race, she took over just over half way through the race. Once she had the lead, Atthecrossroads’ only job was to build the margin and that’s exactly what she did with a six-length margin just over a furlong away from the wire. Under mild urging, the juvenile continued to extend for a 17 ¼ length maiden breaking victory.
A $230,000 Fasig-Tipton July purchase by Breeze Easy from the Baccari Bloodstock consignment last year, Atthecrossroads races for Bell Racing under the direction of Carlos David.
Bred by Dr. Carolin Von Rosenberg, the filly is a half-sister to Grade III winner Midnight Stroll out of a half-sister to Grade III winner Coalport and stakes winner Jolly Good Kitten. The family also includes Grade I winner Favorite Funtime.
Atthecrossroads also has a yearling full brother.
Practical Joke is the sire of 18 juvenile winners this year, fifth best among all stallions. His second crop has produced five stakes performers led by Grade I winner and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies contender Chocolate Gelato.
