Practical Joke’s Determined Jester Wins Rosie’s Stakes

Determined Jester (2f Practical Joke x Call Mariah, by Dixie Union) broke her maiden in a big way on Tuesday in the Rosie’s Stakes at Colonial Downs.

Making her third career start in the 5 ½ furlong turf race, Determined Jester spent the first half of the race shadowing the leader in second. As they turned into the stretch, Forest Boyce sent her to the lead and she quickly took over.

Once she had the lead, she continued to build her margin and crossed the line 4 ½ lengths in front.

Trained by Phil Schoenthal for D Hatman Thoroughbreds, Determined Jester was a $575,000 Keeneland September purchase by her racing owner from the St George Sales consignment last year.

The filly bred by Judy Hicks, Kathryn Nikkel, and Sanford Robertson is a half-sister to stakes winner Bodecream and Group III-placed Califante. Her dam Call Mariah is a half-sister to Grade I winners Albertus Maximus and Daredevil and Grade III-placed Chasethegold. That mare is the granddam of Grade III winner One Liner and multiple stakes winner Provocateur.

The page also includes French champion King Charlemagne and Grade I winners Here Comes Ben and Dayoutoftheoffice.

Call Mariah had a filly from the first Kentucky crop of Caravaggio this year.

Practical Joke is now the sire of five graded stakes winners 10 stakes winners, and 26 stakes performers led by a pair of Grade I winners.
