Quality Mares on Offer For Ashford Trio at Keeneland

The 2022 Keeneland January Breeding Stock Sale sees mares in foal to Echo Town, Maximum Security, and Tiz The Law go through the ring soon before dropping the first foals by the three stallions.

Echo Town’s sole offering is Hip 154 from Hunter Valley Farm, the Bellamy Road mare Here Comes Chloe. Bred to the Grade I winner on an April 26 cover, Here Comes Chloe has three wins on her record. She is one of five winners out of the multiple stakes winning Letithappencaptain, who produced the Grade I winning Ultimate Eagle.

Here Comes Chloe is the dam of three other foals with her first a placed runner. The mare also has an American Pharoah 2-year-old colt to represent her in juvenile races this year.

Champion Maximum Security is represented by two in-foal mares this week with both selling on the first day.

His first through the ring comes 54 hips in and a coveted Bernardini mare offered by Vinery Stud. Bred to Maximum Security for her fourth foal on an April 27 cover, Broad Stripes is a granddaughter of top broodmare and Grade III-placed On Parade. The dam of Grade II winner Parading and Grade II-placed Protesting, On Parade is also a full sister to Champion 2-Year-Old Storm Flag Flying. Producing top runners runs in the family, two of On Parade’s daughters have produced stakes winners.

Quality To Excel is offered by Ballysax Bloodstock as agent for Forever Spring Farm as Hip 282. By Union Rags, Quality to Excel is pregnant to Maximum Security on a March 11 cover for her third foal. Her pedigree makes it clear the mare has a top chance to make a successful broodmare.

Her own dam is a stakes-placed runner and her second dam is the dam of Lookin At Lucky’s stakes winner Try Your Luck. Quality To Excel’s third dam not only is a stakes winner but also a stakes producer with multiple daughters keeping the stakes producing talent going in their branches as producers and producers of producers.

The Classic winning Tiz The Law has four mares carrying his foals scheduled to go through the ring, starting with Hip 433 early in the second session.

Blandford Stud presents Giant’s Causeway’s Youvegottopaytopla, who saw a stakes update on November 27 with Freeport Joe winning the Grade III Berkley Handicap. The 5-year-old has already scored a win this year with an Allowance victory on January 2. Youvegottopaytopla is the winner of four races and is carrying to Tiz The Law on a March 6 cover after having an Uncle Mo colt for her first foal last year.

Youvegottopaytopla is a granddaughter of the stakes winning Alidiva, who produced Group I winners Taipan, Ali-Royal, and Sleepytime in addition to her own Grade II winning three-quarter sister Oonagh MacCool.

Continuing to show the strength of Tiz The Law’s first book, Hip 559 from Indian Creek is a 5-year-old daughter of successful broodmare Storybook. Bred to Tiz The Law on a March 18 cover, Gaelic Tales is a half-sister to three stakes performers, including Uncle Mo’s Grade II-placed Get On The Bus with their dam a half-sister to dual Grade I winner African Story.

Super Saver mare Mott N Hester comes into the ring with an update after her youngest runner placed late in the year. Sold ats Hip 671 through Small Batch Sales, Mott N Hester is already a proven producer as the dam of stakes-placed Nicky Scissors from her first foal and second foal Short Rib also a winner.

Out of a Grade III-placed half-sister to the dam of Grade I winner Bullards Alley, Mott N Hester sees nine stakes performers under her second dam. The mare has a yearling filly by Classic Empire and is bred to Tiz The Law on an April 24 cover.

The last chance to buy a mare in-foal to Tiz The Law at this sale comes as Hip 813, Sparten Team Investment’s Tulsa Queen. Consigned by Brookdale for her owner, the multiple stakes winner and Grade III-placed Tulsa Queen is carrying her second foal on a May 24 cover.

She is also a half-sister to the dam of stakes-placed Torpedo Run with all her dams on the page either producing a stakes performer or the dam of a stakes performer.

The 2022 Keeneland January Sale starts on Tuesday, January 11 and runs through Friday, January 14 with each session starting at 10:00a.m. ET.
