Madame Obey Debut Winner for Tiz The Law
Madame Obey’s (2f Tiz The Law x City Sister, by Carson City) first outing was a successful one on Sunday when the Tiz the Law daughter won a Woodbine Allowance Optional Claiming race on debut.
Starting her career going six furlongs on the synthetic, the Josie Carroll trainee had a clean break before allowed to race just behind the leader. The filly had to settle for racing widest of all of a three horse grouping behind the leader before dropping back to let those horses fight it out around the turn.
In the stretch, the big-blazed filly proved to be a professional as she targeted the leader. It took until the final sixteenth to catch Nata Trouble, but Madame Obey passed her late in the race to cross the line in front.
Racing for Mark Dodson, Madame Obey was a $200,000 OBS April purchase by Ben McElroy from Hoppel after selling twice as a yearling as well.
She was bred in Kentucky by Charles and Caroline Hynes out of the Grade II placed City Sister. City Sister has proven to be a successful broodmare with her six winners including Grade II winner Dixie City, stakes winner Win The War, Uncle Mo’s stakes placed Mo City, and the stakes placed Union City.
Union City produced Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Unified while Dixie City is the dam of champion Blue Chipper and the granddam of Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Bubble Rock. Another one of City Sister’s daughters is also the dam of the multiple stakes winner and Grade II-placed Hasafet.
Tiz The Law leads all freshman sires with his five stakes winners, two graded stakes winners, and four graded stakes performers in 2024 with his $54,682 average earnings per starter also best in his class.
