Scorching Second Stakes Winner of Weekend for Mo Town

It was a second stakes winner in three days for Mo Town on Sunday when Scorching (2c Mo Town x Samsal, by Consolidator) won the Simcoe Stakes.

Looking for a maiden-breaking win in his second start, Scorching lived up to his name in the 6 ½ furlong synthetic race when immediately taking the lead. The colt had horses closely attending him throughout the run but there was over a length between him and the rest of the field coming into the stretch.

It looked as though he may have to face a challenge at that point but when Patrick Husbands let out the reins, Scorching had plenty left. The Ontario-bred just felt a few taps of the whip in the stretch to win by five lengths.

“This is a very nice horse,” said Husbands. “He has great tactical speed. John did a fantastic job getting him ready for this race.”

Second in his debut, the Paul Braverman and Tim Pinch owned colt is trained by John Charalambous and was second in his debut last month.

Bred by Huntington Stud Farm, the colt is a half-brother to Grade III-placed Keep Grinding and three other winners from six named foals out of the stakes placed Samsai. Samsai is a half-sister to the stakes winning Stormy Rush and a daughter of the stakes winning Willow Rush.

There are five stakes performers under Scorching’s Grade III winning third dam Reet Petite, including Footstepsinthesand’s stakes winning daughter Queen Electrica.

This is the 12 juvenile winner of the year for Mo Town, tying him in third among all North American sires alongside Munnings.
