Skygaze Continues Strong Day For Pharoah

It was an exceptional Thursday evening for Triple Crown winner and top sire American Pharoah when he saw success in the sales ring and on the track in a three hour period.

Starting where she left off in 2020, Grade III-placed Skygaze (4f American Pharoah x Skyscape, by Marquetry) extended her win streak to three for Tracy Farm and trainer Mark Casse.

Racing over 1 1/16 miles at Turfway Park, Skygaze easily outclassed her rivals throughout. Quickly going to the lead, she was happy to let another runner race alongside her with the rest of the field a few lengths behind. Jockey Chris Landeros looked full of horse as he kept a tight hold on his mount until they entered the stretch.

Landeros asked his mount to step up the pace and Skygaze didn’t need any extra urging to pull away from the field by three lengths for her fourth career victory.

That win came only 25 minutes after the lightly raced Egyptian Princess (4f American Pharoah x Full Ransom, by Full Mandate) broke her maiden in her third start. Making her first start of 2021, the Sumaya U.S. Stable owned filly won by a length over a mile on turf. Bred by International Equities Holding, the filly is out of a Grade III winner and from the family of Grade I winner Boys At Tosconova.

An earner of $126,428, Skygaze was a $300,000 Keeneland September purchase by Farmer from the Gainesway consignment. Bred by Normandy Farm, Skygaze is one of nine winners for Skyscape. Among the filly’s half-siblings are Grade II winner Sky Cape, stakes winner Sunny Skies and the stakes placed K.O. Love and Reality Show with that mare also the granddam of Group III-placed Walking Thunder.

American Pharoah is already off to a fast start in 2021 with six winners and one stakes winner the best of any third crop sire this year.
