Stakes Placed Practical Joke Filly Brings $400,000

Practical Joke’s stakes placed Atthecrossroads topped his offerings at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale when purchased for $400,000 from the Ashview Farm consignment.

Bought by Shimokobe Farm and Polo Green Stable, the filly is a half-sister to Grade III winner and Grade II-placed Midnight Stroll and one other winner from three to race out of their dam. That mare, Midnight Magic, is a half-sister to Grade III winner Coalport and stakes winner Jolly Good Kitten.

While Atthecrossroads’ third dam didn’t produce a stakes performer, she is a half-sister to Grade I winner Favorite Funtime and full sister to Grade II winner Man From Eldorado.

Practical Joke is also the covering sire of the $425,000 Chameleon, offered by Mt. Brilliant Farm and bought by Stoneway Farm.

Carrying to Practical Joke on an April 8 cover, the mare is out of the multiple stakes winning Secret Someone. That mare is a half-sister to multiple Grade II winner Private Mission and the dam of Grade I winner Dunbar Road with those horses out of the stakes winning Private Gift.

The foal Chameleon is carrying is bred on the same Practical Joke x Candy Ride cross as Grade I winner Chocolate Gelato and stakes winner Shidabhuti.

Practical Joke’s sales ring successes came only days after his daughter Richi won her second Grade I.
