Sweet Rebecca Ascot-Bound After Stakes Victory

Sweet Rebecca (3f American Pharoah x Sweet N Discreet, by Discreet Cat) found her stakes debut just as easy as her racing debut with a win in Sunday’s Memories of Silver Stakes.

Keen to get the job done early in the one-mile race, Sweet Rebecca had to be put under a tight restraint to keep her from doing too much too soon. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione kept her rated on the inside close behind the leaders as he bid his time with his mount and stayed patient just waiting for the right time to strike.

That time came in the stretch when he swung her to the outside of the field and let her loose. Once Sweet Rebecca kicked clear in the final sixteenth, she was given a hand ride to the wire to win by an easy 1 ½ lengths.

Purchased privately by Resolute Racing after an eye-catching maiden victory last out, the Chad Brown trained Sweet Rebecca is a perfect two-for-two in her career.

“It all worked out and I do think this filly might be my first Ascot starter,” Brown said. “For right now, I’d say it’s likely her next start would be in the Coronation. She’s a serious filly and trains with a lot of power. She has a nice turn-of-foot, strong horse.”

Bred by Mt. Brilliant Farm, who sold her for $250,000 to Cobbie View Stable as a yearling, Sweet Rebecca is a full sister to Grade II winner Sweet Melania. They are out of the stakes winner and Grade II-placed Sweet N Discreet. A full sister to Grade II winner Discreet Dancer, she is also a half-sister to Grade II winner Travelin Man.

This is the fifth Northern Hemisphere-foaled stakes winner of the year for American Pharoah, putting him sixth among all North American sires.
