Thankful Wins Again for American Pharoah
It was a second straight victory for Thankful (3f American Pharoah x Beholden, by Cat Thief) on Sunday when the American Pharoah daughter defeated her elders in a Belmont Park Allowance.
Racing over a mile on the dirt, Thankful was prominent from the first when pushing the leader throughout. As they entered the final two furlongs, Thankful took the lead but had to fight off multiple rivals to keep it. Digging deep, she kept her head in front with those close behind her including multiple stakes winner Critical Value.
It was the second victory in four starts for the Bass Stables-owned filly with the Todd Pletcher trainee also finishing second in a third race. A $625,000 purchase by Steve Young from Taylor Made Sales, Thankful was bred by Profoal Partners 3.
Thankful is a half-sister to stakes winners Brazen Persuasion and Behold De Buy with her dam producing six winners from seven to race. The filly’s family also includes Grade III winners Ocean Knight and Winter Melody with her granddam Godmother also a multiple stakes winner.
It was a big Sunday for American Pharoah with the stallion also having a juvenile winner in Ireland. The leading sire of his generation, the Triple Crown winner has 22 stakes horses including seven graded stakes winners and 10 stakes winners overall.
