Another Impressive Maiden Winner For Calyx
Grand Son Of Calyx (2c Calyx - Asawer, by Darshaan) continued his sire’s exciting start at stud on Monday when running out an impressive winner of the six furlong maiden at Saint-Cloud.
Bred by Barronstown Stud, Gianluca Bietolini’s charge shaped with promise on debut when finishing fourth to Myconian (Magna Grecia) and enjoyed a boost in form when runner-up The Fixer (No Nay Never) bolted up by eight lengths next time out.
Reunited with Rosario Mangione on Monday, Grand Son Of Calyx raced towards the back of the field in the early stages and was asked to quicken upon entering the straight. The bay produced a smart turn of foot to sweep past his rivals and led approaching the final furlong. Soon clear, he was pushed out to win by four lengths, with another two and a half lengths back to the third.
Trainer Gianluca Bietolini commented “His sire Calyx has made a very good start as a stallion! I like this colt a lot, he’s very professional and has good acceleration… he will be aimed at the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere”
