Another smart juvenile for Holy Roman
Maxentius (2c Holy Roman Emperor-Guantanamera, by Sadler's Wells) confirmed himself a high-class juvenile at Doncaster on Friday when beating some decent previous winners in a conditions event.
Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam will now aim the unbeaten juvenile, a four-length maiden winner on his debut, at the G2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket’s July Meeting.
“It would hard not to be impressed with that,” said Chapple-Hyam. “I could have gone to Warwick next Friday for an easier race but I just thought he’d improved in his work and he’s not a bad horse. We’ll find out now and run him in the G2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket. The step up in trip suited him and the only worry was the ground, he likes fast ground
Jockey William Buick added: “He did it nicely, picked up really well and has improved a lot from his first start.”
Maxentius was scoring three days after the Richard Hannon-trained Holy Roman Emperor filly Maureen (2f Holy Roman Emperor-Exotic Mix, by Linamix) was an impressive winner of a Newbury maiden on her debut.
