Breeders Continue Great Luck With Sioux Nation

Sean Ronan and Caroline Hanly continued their success with Sioux Nation when selling one of his colts for a sales-topping €135,000 at Book 2 of the Orby Sale.

Pa Doyle’s Galbertstown Stables consigned the March-born bay, who is a half-brother to talented juvenile Diego Ventura. That colt was offered by Tally-Ho Stud at the breeze-up sales, and the O’Callaghan family reinvested in his Sioux Nation half-brother on Friday.

“We like buying fast ones,” Roger O’Callaghan said, while his father Tony added: “He has the pedigree and is a good stamp of a horse. The trade is good enough- there were six or seven bidders for that horse. Trade is good for the nice horses.”

The colt was bred by Ronan and Hanly’s Orchardstown Stud out of 8,000gns broodmare buy Leoube, while they bred Sioux Nation’s multiple Group winner Brave Emperor out of €9,000 purchase Roman Gal (Holy Roman Emperor).

On their sales-topper, Sean Ronan said, “He was going well but we were expecting more around the 70 or 80 grand mark. He is a very good physical and we had the update last week so with that he ended up standing out here.”

“We’ve had great luck with Sioux Nation, we also bred Brave Emperor and we felt he really suited the mare. He’s a very impressive horse to look at, he’s a big imposing horse and was a good fit for the mare.”

Sioux Nation was responsible for a pair of six-figure yearlings at Book 1 of the Orby Sale, where Arthur Hoyeau went to €185,000 for Pier House Stud’s first foal out of the mare Dutch Light. 14 lots earlier, Yeomanstown Stud sold another Sioux Nation filly to Jason Kelly for €135,000.
