Calyx Colt Impresses With Second Success
Nellie Leylax (2c Calyx – Lovelocks, by High Chaparral) ran out an impressive winner at Doncaster on Saturday, marking a second career win for Tom Dascombe’s progressive colt.
The first crop son of Calyx overcame a slow start to win a five furlong maiden on debut in May and made a promising step up to seven furlongs last time out, when finishing a close fourth. Partnered by Pierre-Louis Jamin in Saturday’s Class 2 Novice Stakes, the bay made all of the running and was shaken up to draw clear approaching the final furlong. Keeping on well under hands and heels, he led by three and a quarter lengths on the line.
Nellie Leylax is owned by Millenial Racing and was bred by Glenvale Stud with Edgeridge Ltd. His trainer has played a part in Calyx’s impressive start at stud, having trained Hot Fuss (Calyx) to finish a close fifth in the Chesham Stakes, before breaking his maiden by five and a half lengths. Calyx’s first crop is led by Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes heroine Persian Dreamer, Group 2 Norfolk Stakes runner-up Malc and Group 2 Prix Robert Papin third Classic Flower.
