Calyx Colt Makes All To Win Sprint Maiden
Golden Strike (2c Calyx - Hot Legs, by Galileo) built on last month’s eye-catching debut to justify favouritism in Tuesday’s six furlong maiden at Ayr.
Richard Fahey’s charge showed his inexperience first time out when breaking slowly, but made late headway to finish a promising third. He showed the benefit of that run on Tuesday when making all of the running under Oisin Orr. Ridden from a furlong out, he ran on well to score by a length and a quarter.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “Golden Strike ran a good race first time out and he's come forward from it. He's a big, good-looking horse and I think there's plenty to look forward with him.”
Golden Strike is owned by Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum, having been purchased by Blandford Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up Sale for 135,000gns. Bred by R McDonald and Adrian Mansergh Wallace, the promising colt continues a smart start at stud by Calyx.
