Calyx colt to the Acomb Stakes-Gr.3

Hot Fuss (2c Calyx – Natural Bloom, by Galileo) will head to the Acomb Stakes-Gr.3 at York after breaking his maiden in style at Salisbury last Saturday. The 2022 Acomb renewal went the way of subsequent 2000 Guineas-Gr.1 winner Chaldean.

Bred by the late Sir Robert Ogden and trained by Tom Dascombe for Keith, David and Stephen Trowbridge, the exciting son of Coventry Stakes-Gr.2 winner Calyx scored by five and a half lengths in the seven-furlong Novice stakes. Victory was compensation for a narrow defeat in the Chesham Stakes-L.R. at Royal Ascot.

“The plan was to wait for him until Salisbury, because if he’d won by July 13, he wouldn’t be qualified for the Acomb, but (winning on July 15) now he is,” Dascombe commented. “He will go there. We think he is a proper horse. Honestly, his mind is so good. He has breezed, he has run three times and he doesn’t give a monkey’s. From day one, I think we knew he was a good horse.”

Calyx celebrated Group 2 success last Friday when Persian Dreamer (2f Calyx - Surprisingly, by Galileo) won the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket in fine style, the Amo Racing owned filly will be aimed at the Cheveley Park Stakes-Gr.1. Last Sunday Classic Flower (2f Calyx - Crown Of Flowers, by Garswood), winner of her two previous starts, ran third in the Prix Robert Papin-Gr.2 and will likely be seen next in the Prix Six Perfections-Gr.3 or Prix du Calvados-Gr.3 at the end of the month.
