Calyx Colt Wins Maiden With Smart Turn Of Foot
Calypso King (3c Calyx – Cheriearch, by Arch) built on a promising debut to win Wednesday’s six furlong maiden at Deauville.
Stephane Wattel’s charge finished fourth on his sole juvenile start, a performance made more promising when two of his rivals later earned black-type. Dropping down in trip on his seasonal return, the grey settled in last under Alexis Pouchin and was asked to quicken from two furlongs out. A smart turn of foot saw him quickly narrow the leaders’ advantage and he kept on well to lead by a head on the line, with another three lengths back to the third.
Owned by Peter Savill and partners, Calypso King was bred by Oceanic Bloodstock, OTI Management and Ariane Gravereaux. He hails from the exciting first crop of Castlehyde Stud sire Calyx.
