Calyx Colts In Demand At Tattersalls Guineas Sale
Exciting first season sire Calyx continued to prove popular at the latest breeze-up sale, with both of his offerings at the Tattersalls Guineas Sale bringing six-figure sums.
Bushypark Stables consigned the first of the Calyx colts and enjoyed a terrific result when Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown went to 135,000gns on behalf of Sheikh Rashid. After revealing his client and the colt’s intended trainer in Richard Fahey, Brown said, “The stallion has made a very promising start. He did a really nice breeze in a good style. He wasn’t particularly rapid but finished off very well and visually his gallop out was lovely, he just kept going up the hill.”
Matt Whyte of Bushypark Stables later explained that the colt’s damsire Galileo also held plenty of appeal. “I just loved the Galileo side of it,” Whyte said. “I thought he’d put a good temperament into the horse and the last three weeks he’s just bloomed. He’s very light on his feet. I’ve had a couple of jockeys sit on him and everyone has liked him. The sire was a big help as well.”
Leading operation Tally-Ho Stud were another who invested in Calyx’s first crop and were well-rewarded on Thursday when selling their Calyx colt to Sackville Donald for 120,000gns. The O’Callaghan family had another reason to celebrate the successful sale, as they purchased the colt’s dam carrying a full sibling in 2021.
