Calyx Filly Makes All To Win Del Mar Grade 3

Zona Verde (2f Calyx - Namibie, by Dark Angel) was not for catching when recording her first black-type success in the Grade 3 Jimmy Durante Stakes at Del Mar on Saturday.

The first crop daughter of Calyx placed twice in her native Ireland before selling privately to the Philip d’Amato stable and rewarded new connections with a maiden win over Saturday’s course and distance. Drawn wide at the weekend, she led for the first time in the Grade 3 over a mile and quickened well in the straight to prevail by a length on the line.

Bred and previously raced by Knockainey Stud, Zona Verde becomes a third individual Group/Graded winner by Calyx. His first crop is headlined by a pair of Group 2 winners and Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes third Eben Shaddad.
