Calyx Retires To Coolmore

Calyx, one of the most impressive two-year-old winners at Royal Ascot in recent years has been retired from racing. The son of Kingman has been acquired by Coolmore Stud with his owner/breeder Juddmonte Farms retaining an interest in the colt.

He was the first winner for his exciting sire when winning first time out at Newmarket by 5 lengths. Then only 10 days later he put up one of the two-year-old performances of the season when defeating Advertise in the Coventry Stakes-Gr.2 at Royal Ascot.

His three-year-old debut was just as electrifying, where he again produced his blistering speed to land Ascot’s Commonwealth Cup Trial Stakes-Gr.3. Frankie Dettori, who rode him to his Group race successes, was in no doubt about his talent saying “He’s blessed with so much speed, I think sprinting is his thing. He’s a serious horse.”

His trainer John Gosden was equally impressed stating “Calyx always had that rare brilliance you only see in champions. His performances at Ascot at both 2 and 3 years were of the highest standard. He is a very similar type to his sire Kingman and with both Coolmore and Juddmonte supporting him at stud he will be given the best possible opportunity to succeed as a stallion.”

Coolmore’s Director of Sales David O’Loughlin enthused “We are thrilled to get Calyx. He had an explosive turn of foot, as did his sire Kingman, while his dam is a Group winning two-year-old and a full-sister to a Group One winning sprinter.
