Classy Holy Roman Emperor Colt Gains Maiden Win
The John Gosden-trained Emperor Spirit (2c Holy Roman Emperor - Aspasias Tizzy, by Tiznow) built on two promising performances to justify short-priced favoritism at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening.
Third on debut and a close second last month, the Abdullatid Al-Abdulrazzaq owned colt stepped up to eight and a half furlongs at the weekend. The bay chased the leader under Robert Havlin, asserting before the two furlong marker and was shaken up inside the final furlong to win by a length and three quarters.
Emperor Spirit could be open to further improvement as a half-brother to Above The Rest, whose most notable successes came as a six, seven and eight-year-old. Bred by JC Carr, the son of Holy Roman Emperor was bought by Hugo Merry as a yearling for 135,000gns.
