Consistent Son Of Holy Roman Emperor Gets Off The Mark
Skilled Warrior (3g Holy Roman Emperor - Sushi Tuna, by Halling) kept on well to gain a deserved maiden success at Roscommon on Monday.
Placed on five previous occasions, the Johnny Murtagh-trained bay was sent off favourite for the seven furlong maiden and was ridden to track the leaders by Ben Coen. Making good headway in the straight, he was ridden to lead inside the final furlong and scored by a length and a half, with another three lengths back to the third horse.
“He deserved that as he's been consistent all year,” Coen later commented. “We took a lead on him today, which worked, and he enjoyed it. He did it well.”
Owned by Mrs Wendy O’Leary, Skilled Warrior was bred by Framont Ltd and Grove Stud.
