Call Me Captain (Calyx) Wins On Debut At Naas

Exciting Prospect Emerges For Calyx

The future looks bright for Call Me Captain (2g Calyx – Grey Waters, by Mastercraftsman) after he beat some well-regarded types in Thursday’s seven furlong maiden at Naas.

Natalia Lupini’s newcomer raced prominently throughout under Dylan Browne McMonagle and was asked to quicken approaching the two furlong pole. Leading soon after, he was ridden approaching the final furlong and ran on well to beat Reyenzi (Saxon Warrior) by three parts of a length.

“He's a horse we liked a lot at home,” assistant trainer Craig Bryson later commented. “We hoped he'd run a nice race but coming to a maiden like this you are only hoping. He could possibly have one more run but he's probably a middle distance horse for next year.”

Owned by Mary Turley and bred by Mr MM Sammon, the son of Calyx provides an important update for his Gleneagles half-sister selling at Tattersalls Ireland later this month.
