Exciting Prospect Emerges For Calyx At The Curragh
Tina’s Indian (3c Calyx – Indian Maiden, by Indian Ridge) emerged as an exciting colt when justifying strong market support at the Curragh on debut.
The Mark Fahey-trained newcomer was sent off favourite against more experienced rivals in the six furlong maiden and soon settled in midfield under Ronan Whelan. Making headway from over two furlongs out, he was ridden to challenge a furlong later and ran on well to lead inside the final furlong. He kept on to win by two lengths and three quarters, going away, while White Clover (Starspangledbanner) and Pansy Poe (Starspangledbanner) took second and third respectively.
“We love this horse and we think he's very, very good,” the winning trainer revealed. “I've never had a horse like him before, he does everything so easy. I don't have too many maiden winners, but he was destroying everything I have at home. He was doing everything so easy and that's the first time he was ever took off the bridle.”
The first crop son of Calyx is owned by breeder Con Harrington with James Hughes.
