Fairies flies for Holy Roman
John Oxx maintained his excellent record in Roscommon’s Listed Lenebane Stakes on Monday evening when Holy Roman Emperor filly Flying Fairies (4f Holy Roman Emperor-Bright Birdie, by Sadler’s Wells) came out best.
The four-year-old, who also scored in Listed company when trained by Joe Murphy last season, quickened well to capture Monday’s contest by a length and a quarter under Gary Carroll. She changed hands for 280,000gns at the Tattersalls December Sale and now carries the colours of Ann Marshall.
“I thought two furlongs out that our luck might be out as she was on the inside obviously going very well but with nowhere to go. But when the gap came she flew through it,” said Oxx.
"She just likes a little ease in the ground. She won for Joe (Murphy) last year on good to firm, and she ran very well in the Group 3 in Cork the other day when it was more firm than good.
“She is a very genuine and tough filly, and a really nice filly for them to have back on the farm as a broodmare."
